Spencer Stephens is a Maine writer and the author of two novels, Blood Lily and Church of Golf.
Spencer’s early influences include his Dad – a lover of great books, a nuclear submariner, and the front man and lead guitarist for a dance band. Spencer was an English major at East Carolina University and earned his way through college as an American Sign Language interpreter and offers impromptu tutorials on curious bits of ASL vocabulary. He earned a law degree from the Catholic University of America.
After college, Spencer went to work as a news and features writer for daily newspapers, including The Capital-Gazette in Annapolis and The Evening Telegram in Rocky Mount, NC. His freelance work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Washington Times and The Portland Press-Herald. Being a general assignment reporter turned him into a student of nearly everything. He enhanced his appreciation of both the arcane and the divine during 20-plus years spent as a trial attorney.
Spencer and his wife live on the Maine coast and have two daughters, both grown.
